GoPro Mission 1 Pro Review
GoPro launched the MISSION 1 series as compact cinema cameras for filmmakers and creators. The Mission 1 Pro is the middle model of the three: a fixed lens, waterproofing to 20 m, a 1-inch 50MP sensor, 8K at up to 60 fps and 8K open gate.

The Verdict
On paper the Mission 1 Pro is a big step up from GoPro's HERO line: a 1-inch sensor instead of the HERO13 Black's 1/1.9-inch, 8K at up to 60 fps in 16:9, 8K open gate in 4:3 at up to 30 fps, and 4K at up to 240 fps. It keeps the things that make a GoPro practical: waterproofing to 20 m without a housing, HyperSmooth with 360° Horizon Lock, built-in GPS and mounting fingers.
It suits people who grade their footage, crop in post or record sound on the camera: 10-bit GP-Log2, HLG, 240 Mbps, RAW audio in 32-bit float and timecode sync are all on GoPro's spec sheet. The costs are weight (207 g), a fixed F2.8 aperture, a front LCD rather than OLED, no focus peaking, and battery figures that GoPro only gives as approximate "up to" values for the whole series, without a temperature.

What Stands Out
- 1-inch 50MP sensor, larger by type than the HERO13 Black's 1/1.9-inch
- 8K at up to 60 fps (16:9) and 8K open gate (4:3) at up to 30 fps
- 4K at up to 240 fps, 1080p at up to 480 fps
- 10-bit GP-Log2 with LUT, HLG HDR, up to 240 Mbps
- RAW audio as 24-bit PCM or 32-bit float, up to three tracks, timecode sync
- Waterproof to 20 m without a housing, with GPS built in
Trade-offs
- 207 g, against 149 g for the DJI Osmo Action 6 (neither maker says what the weight includes)
- Fixed F2.8 aperture; the front screen is an LCD, not OLED
- No focus peaking or focus assist on GoPro's spec sheet
- Runtime only as series-wide "up to" figures from GoPro's FAQ, with no temperature or settings
- Interchangeable lenses need the separate MISSION 1 PRO ILS, which GoPro says is weatherproof, not waterproof
In Depth
Where it sits in the MISSION 1 line-up
GoPro announced three cameras on 14 April 2026: MISSION 1, MISSION 1 PRO and MISSION 1 PRO ILS, the last with a Micro Four Thirds mount. This page covers the PRO, the middle model, which has a fixed lens. On GoPro's spec sheet the non-Pro MISSION 1 tops out at 8K30 in 16:9 and has neither 8K open gate nor Burst Slo-Mo. The ILS swaps the fixed lens for a lens mount and, according to GoPro's FAQ, is weatherproof but not waterproof.
The PRO reached shops on 28 May 2026; GoPro's April release dated the ILS and the Creator Edition bundles to Q3 2026. The HERO13 Black is still part of GoPro's current line-up, so the Mission 1 Pro sells alongside it rather than replacing it.
Sensor, lens and photos
GoPro lists the sensor as 1-inch and 50MP, without dimensions in millimetres. The launch release adds native 1.6 µm pixels and 3.2 µm "fused" pixels, and the product page mentions a Quad Bayer 12MP mode in 4K. Stills come out at 50MP (8192 × 6144) or 12MP, as JPG or RAW (.GPR), and GoPro lists frame grabs of up to 44.2MP from 8K 4:3 video.
The lens is fixed at F2.8 with a 159° native field of view, plus three digital lens modes: SuperView (16:9 only), Wide and Linear. GoPro's own page describes the focal length in two ways that do not match. Focus peaking and focus assist are marked as absent on the spec sheet. Video ISO runs from 25 to 6400.
Video modes and audio
8K runs at up to 60 fps in 16:9. 8K Open Gate records in 4:3 at up to 30 fps; the taller frame leaves room to cut horizontal and vertical versions from one clip. 4K goes to 240 fps in 16:9 and 120 fps in 4:3, and 1080p and 1440p (4:3) reach 480 fps. GoPro's slow-motion table turns that into 16x at 1080p, 8x at 4K and 2x at 8K, plus a Burst Slo-Mo mode of 32x (960 fps) at 1080p for 10 seconds.
For grading, the camera records 8-bit or 10-bit, with GP-Log2 (GoPro supplies a LUT) and HLG HDR, at up to 240 Mbps in H.265; GoPro adds that GoPro Labs can push the bitrate further. The audio side goes further than DJI's Osmo Action 6 spec sheet (48 kHz / 16-bit AAC): four microphones, RAW audio as 24-bit PCM or 32-bit float, up to three tracks, wireless and USB audio, manual audio controls and timecode synchronisation.
Stabilisation, water and battery
Stabilisation is HyperSmooth with 360° Horizon Lock. GoPro's spec sheet does not say in which resolutions and frame rates Horizon Lock is available, so check that before planning 8K60 or 4K240 shots around it. GoPro rates the camera waterproof to 20 m without a housing, and the launch release lists a Protective Housing rated to 60 m. GoPro does not say whether the 20 m rating applies with the removable lens hood fitted. Operating temperature is -20 °C to 45 °C.
The Enduro 2 battery has 2150 mAh. The spec sheet has no runtime row; the only figures are in the MISSION 1 series FAQ: up to 5 hours at 1080p30 in Endurance Mode, 3+ hours at 4K30 and up to 1.5 hours at 8K30, with no temperature or settings stated (the launch release says "5+ hours" for the Endurance figure). Read them as GoPro's best-case numbers. Charging takes approximately 27 minutes to 80% and 60 minutes to 100% with a PPS charger.

FAQ
What is the difference between the Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS?
All three belong to GoPro's MISSION 1 series. The Mission 1 tops out at 8K30 in 16:9 and has no 8K open gate or Burst Slo-Mo. The Mission 1 Pro adds 8K60, 8K30 open gate and 32x Burst Slo-Mo with a fixed lens and waterproofing to 20 m. The Mission 1 Pro ILS has a Micro Four Thirds mount for interchangeable lenses and, according to GoPro, is weatherproof but not waterproof.
How long does the battery last?
GoPro gives approximate figures for the whole MISSION 1 series: up to 5 hours at 1080p30 in Endurance Mode, 3+ hours at 4K30 and up to 1.5 hours at 8K30. GoPro states no temperature or settings for them. DJI's 240 minutes for the Osmo Action 6 is measured under its own stated conditions (1080p/24, 25 °C, screens off), so the two figures cannot be compared directly.
Is it waterproof without a housing?
Yes, GoPro rates it to 20 m without a housing, and the launch release lists a Protective Housing rated to 60 m. GoPro does not say whether the 20 m rating holds with the removable lens hood fitted. The ILS model with interchangeable lenses is weatherproof only.
Mission 1 Pro or DJI Osmo Action 6?
On the makers' spec sheets, the Mission 1 Pro has the larger sensor type, 8K60 and 8K open gate, 4K240, twice the maximum bitrate (240 vs 120 Mbps), 32-bit float audio and GPS. The Action 6 is lighter (149 g vs 207 g), has a variable aperture, 50 GB of usable built-in storage, a front OLED touchscreen and a runtime figure with stated conditions. The Action 6 vs Mission 1 Pro comparison goes through the details.
Final Recommendation
The Mission 1 Pro brings 8K60, 8K open gate, 4K240, GP-Log2 at up to 240 Mbps and 32-bit float audio into a body that is still waterproof to 20 m. What it does not offer is a light body, a variable aperture or battery figures with stated test conditions.
Buy it if: You want 8K60 or 8K open gate, high-frame-rate 4K, a log profile at up to 240 Mbps and 32-bit float audio in a camera that still mounts and swims like a GoPro.
Skip it if: You want the lightest option (the Action 6 lists 149 g), need runtime figures with stated conditions, rely on focus peaking, or need interchangeable lenses (that is the separate ILS, which is not waterproof).
