Overview
cameraupick ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal data.
Short version: We don't sell your data. We use standard analytics to improve the site and affiliate links to earn commissions. That's it.
Who is responsible: the controller under the GDPR is Tiezhu Liu, who runs cameraupick. Postal address in the Impressum; email contact@cameraupick.com.
Information We Collect
Automatically Collected Data
When you visit our site, we automatically collect:
- Analytics data: Page views, time on site, device type, browser, referring source (via Plausible, and via Google Analytics if you consent)
- Cookies: we set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets cookies only after you agree; Amazon and Awin set cookies on their own domains when you click through to them. Your cookie choice is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie (see Cookies below)
- Log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited (recorded by our host, Netlify; see Hosting below)

If you subscribe to our newsletter or email us, we collect:
- Email address: For newsletter delivery or responding to inquiries
- Name (optional): If you include it in your email
- Message content: Any information you include in your emails
How We Use Your Data
Communication
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we'll send you new reviews, buying guides, and deals. You can unsubscribe anytime with one click.
Affiliate Tracking
When you click an affiliate link, cookies track your purchase so we can earn a commission. This doesn't identify you personally and doesn't increase your price.
Third-Party Services
Hosting (Netlify)
This site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA). When you open a page, Netlify's servers process the technical data your browser sends with every request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the page, keep the site secure and find errors, and it is recorded in server logs. The newsletter sign-up form is also handled on Netlify: a Netlify function passes your email address on to Brevo (see Email Service Provider below). Netlify acts as our processor. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data may be processed in the USA; Netlify, Inc. states that it is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Details: Netlify privacy statement.
Domain and Email Forwarding (Cloudflare)
Our domain cameraupick.com is registered with Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), and Cloudflare runs the DNS for our domains. Visits to cameraupick.com go straight to Netlify; Cloudflare only answers the DNS lookup. Requests to cameraupick.de pass through Cloudflare's network, which forwards them to cameraupick.com and processes your IP address and the requested address to do so. Emails you send to our @cameraupick.com addresses (such as contact@ or taylor@) are received by Cloudflare Email Routing and forwarded to our mailbox at Google (Gmail); for that, Cloudflare processes the sender and recipient addresses and the message. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running our domains and receiving your emails (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). For transfers to the USA, Cloudflare relies on its certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Details: Cloudflare privacy policy.
Plausible Analytics
We count visits with Plausible Analytics, run by a company incorporated in Estonia. The data is stored in the EU (on servers in Germany) and does not leave the EU. Plausible sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, so it runs without the cookie banner. It records the page you view, the referring site, browser, operating system, device type, approximate location (country, region, city), scroll depth and time on page. To count unique visitors, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string are combined with a salt that is deleted every 24 hours and turned into a hash; the IP address itself is not stored, and the hash cannot recognise you on another day or on another website. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which content is read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Details: Plausible data policy.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic. Google may use cookies and collect data about your browsing. Google Analytics only loads after you explicitly accept it in the cookie banner — without your consent no analytics cookies are set and no Google script is loaded. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG). Data collected by Google Analytics may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Google's statement).
You can withdraw your consent at any time, with effect for the future: click
Change your choice (this link,
here in this section, reopens the cookie banner) and choose Reject. The site then stops sending data
to Google Analytics and deletes its cookies (_ga, _ga_…).

Amazon Associates
We take part in the Amazon Associates Programme for amazon.de (Amazon PartnerNet), under store ID cameraupick0c-21. When you click one of our Amazon links, Amazon sets cookies so a resulting purchase can be credited to us. If you are outside Germany, Amazon may forward you to your local Amazon store (OneLink); the same applies there.
Awin
Some of our buttons lead to other retailers (the button names the shop, for example Calumet). These links run through the affiliate network Awin, operated in Germany by Awin AG (Berlin), via the domain awin1.com. When you click one, Awin sets a cookie on its own domain and records an identifier for the click that contains the retailer's campaign, our site as the referrer, the type of action and the country it happened in, and the device used; Awin also uses device attributes such as screen size and settings (fingerprinting) to recognise the same journey. If you then buy something, the retailer reports the order value, product type, sales channel and whether a voucher was used. Awin does not learn your name. Purpose: crediting the sale to us so the retailer can pay our commission, plus reporting and fraud prevention. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in being paid for referrals (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); Awin bases its own processing on legitimate interest as well. Awin generally keeps tracking data for up to three years; where it transfers data outside the EU, it uses the EU standard contractual clauses. Details: Awin privacy policy (section "Awin Consumers").
Email Service Provider
Our newsletter is run by Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH / Brevo SAS, EU). When you subscribe, your email address is passed to Brevo and you receive a confirmation email; you only join the list after you click the link in it (double opt-in). Brevo stores the time and IP address of that click as proof of consent. Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
Social Media
The only social account we link to is our Instagram profile. It is a plain link — no embedded widget, no script, nothing is sent to Instagram until you click it. Once you do, Instagram's own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
What is stored in your browser, and who sets cookies:
- Your cookie choice: stored in your browser's local storage as
cu-consent-v1, so we do not ask again. This is not a cookie and is never sent to us. - Camera-picker answers: if you use the picker, your answers stay in local storage
(
quizAnswers) so the result survives a reload. They never leave your browser. - Light or dark mode: if you switch it in the header, your choice is kept in local
storage (
cu-theme) so the next page opens the same way. It never leaves your browser. - Analytics: Google Analytics sets cookies — only after you agree. They are deleted when you withdraw your consent.
- Affiliate tracking: Amazon or Awin set cookies on their own domains when you click through to them.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may limit site functionality.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
- HTTPS encryption on all pages
- Secure hosting infrastructure
- Limited access to any collected personal information
- Regular security updates
However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights
Access & Deletion
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time
- Opt out of analytics tracking (via browser settings or opt-out tools)

If you're in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR, including:
- Right to rectification (correct inaccurate data)
- Right to data portability (transfer your data elsewhere)

California Users (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, delete personal information, and opt out of sale (note: we don't sell personal information).
Children's Privacy
Our site is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us immediately and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be highlighted on our homepage.
