DJI Osmo Pocket 4 vs Pocket 3

Same idea, same lens specification, new numbers. The Pocket 4 keeps the Pocket 3's 1-inch sensor size, 20 mm f/2.0 lens and three-axis gimbal, and changes almost everything around them: slow motion, bitrate, storage, battery and screen. Here is what has changed, and who should still be happy with a Pocket 3.

Runtime for both is DJI's figure at 1080p/24 with Wi-Fi and the screen off. Pocket 4 figures from DJI's spec page and product page, checked 16 October 2026. The Pocket 3's zoom limits, colour profiles, storage and USB entries come from DJI's comparison on that product page.

Image Quality: Same Lens, New Sensor

Both cameras use a 1-inch sensor behind a 20 mm equivalent f/2.0 lens that focuses from 0.2 m, so framing and depth of field at a given distance are the same. What DJI changed is the sensor itself, which it calls new:

  • Stills: approximately 37 MP on the Pocket 4 against 9.4 MP on the Pocket 3, with a largest image of 6144 × 6144 instead of 3072 × 3072 at 1:1.
  • ISO: the ceiling doubles to 12,800 for photo and video, and rises from 16,000 to 25,600 in Low-Light Video.
  • Colour: the Pocket 4 records 10-bit D-Log and HDR 10-bit video, and DJI quotes 14 stops in both the Normal and D-Log profiles. The Pocket 3 records 10-bit D-Log M and, per DJI's comparison, HLG; the Pocket 4's pages do not list HLG.

Winner: Pocket 4, clearly for photos. For video, both are 1-inch cameras with the same lens.

Video and Slow Motion

In normal video the two are level: 4K at up to 60 fps. The difference is in Slow Motion mode, where the Pocket 4 records 4K at 100, 120, 200 or 240 fps against a 4K120 maximum on the Pocket 3. At 240 fps one second of action stretches to eight seconds on a 30 fps timeline, twice the Pocket 3's four. The bitrate ceiling also rises from 130 to 180 Mbps.

The lossless 2x zoom is more usable on the Pocket 4: DJI excludes it only in Low-Light, Slow Motion and Timelapse, says it works with ActiveTrack and D-Log, and allows continuous zooming while recording. On the Pocket 3, DJI's footnote also rules it out with ActiveTrack, D-Log and Photo, and the ratio cannot be switched while recording. ActiveTrack moves from version 6.0 to 7.0, which DJI says keeps tracking at 4x zoom.

One open question: DJI's Pocket 4 product page says Slow Motion supports D-Log, while a footnote on the same page limits 10-bit D-Log to normal Video mode. Do not buy the Pocket 4 for graded 4K240 until DJI clarifies it.

Winner: Pocket 4, by twice the 4K slow-motion frame rate and 50 Mbps more bitrate.

Storage, Battery and Screen

  • Storage: the Pocket 4 has 107 GB built in, plus the same microSD slot for cards up to 1 TB. The Pocket 3 records to microSD only, so a forgotten card means no recording.
  • Battery: 1545 mAh against 1300 mAh, and DJI's rated runtime rises from 166 to 240 minutes under the same test settings. Charging to 80 % takes 18 minutes instead of 16 with DJI's 65 W charger; both reach 100 % in 32 minutes.
  • Screen: same 2.0-inch size and 556 × 314 resolution, but rated at 1000 nits instead of 700, which matters when framing yourself in sunlight.
  • Transfer and audio: Wi-Fi 6 and USB 3.1 instead of Wi-Fi 5 and USB 2.0, with DJI quoting up to 800 MB/s wired export in a lab test. DJI Mic 3 and Mic Mini transmitters join the Mic 2 as direct-connect options, with four-channel recording.

Winner: Pocket 4 on every line except the first 80 % of a charge, which takes two minutes longer.

Size and Weight

The Pocket 4 is 4.5 mm longer, 2.2 mm wider and 11.5 g heavier (190.5 g against 179 g); both are 33.5 mm deep. DJI does not say what the Pocket 4's weight includes. In a jacket pocket the difference is small, and the Pocket 4's battery holds 1.94 Wh more energy.

Winner: Pocket 3, narrowly.

FAQ

Is the Pocket 4 worth upgrading to from a Pocket 3?

If you use slow motion, run out of storage or battery, or want better photos, yes: 4K240 instead of 4K120, 107 GB built in, 240 instead of 166 minutes rated, and approximately 37 MP instead of 9.4 MP. If you film normal 4K at 60 fps or below and none of those limits bite, the Pocket 3's lens and gimbal format is the same, and the upgrade is smaller.

Do Pocket 3 accessories fit the Pocket 4?

DJI's Pocket 4 product page lists the Pocket 4's own accessories (fill light, battery handle, ND and Black Mist filters) but does not say whether Pocket 3 accessories fit. The Pocket 4 is 4.5 mm longer and 2.2 mm wider, so cases and clip-on accessories made for the Pocket 3 may not. DJI Mic 2 transmitters do connect to both.

Which one is better in low light?

DJI publishes no low-light measurement for either, so there is no figure to compare. On the spec sheets, the Pocket 4's Low-Light Video mode reaches ISO 25,600 against 16,000 on the Pocket 3, and both use a 1-inch sensor behind an f/2.0 lens.

Should I consider the Pocket 4P instead?

Only if you want a longer lens. The Pocket 4P adds a 60 mm f/1.8 tele camera for 3x optical zoom and a D-Log 2 profile DJI rates at up to 17 stops, but weighs 230 g and is rated for 210 minutes. See Pocket 4 vs Pocket 4P.

Bottom Line

Buying new: The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is the one to get. On DJI's figures it improves slow motion, bitrate, storage, runtime, screen brightness and stills resolution, for 11.5 g more.

Already own a Pocket 3: Upgrade if slow motion, storage or battery limit you today. If they do not, the Pocket 3 still shoots with the same lens format and gimbal.
